The group had to leave at 7.30am for a very long day’s travelling to the Thai border and then back to Bangkok. I had been given some good advice that I could take a flight out of Siem Reap back to Bangkok, and then I figured I might as well connect to a flight home as there were no more actual activities for the trip.
Nevertheless I got up to see them off and said goodbye to all my new friends who had been like family for the last month. Then I went up to the rooftop restaurant for a leisurely breakfast and to say goodbye to our friendly waiter and waitress. My flight wasn’t until the afternoon but there wasn’t really enough time to go anywhere so I decided that I would indulge in a massage where the hotel would organise for them to come to my room. For $18 I got a 90 minute massage that set me up well for the trip home.
I arranged a transfer to the airport after a late checkout but even so I arrived far too early but had a nice lunch and fresh coconut juice while I waited for the check-in counters to open. The flight to Bangkok was uneventful and I had a couple of hours before my flight to Auckland. I still needed to get a few gifts, so I headed up to the shopping floor and was taking my time cruising around the various stores thinking I had plenty of time when I noticed that there were distances indicated for each of the various gates. My gate was at the far end of the terminal, so I had to walk quite fast for more than 1.5km!! to make it there in time for boarding.
I arrived back in Auckland at midday of the Saturday of the Auckland Anniversary long weekend, so had a couple of days to sort myself out before having to slot back into everyday life.
