Steph and I had another ‘play date’ yesterday to try out some new toys that we got at the recent SENZ Craft Expo. We had watched a demonstration of making mini mixed-media canvases with new products from Lindy’s Stamp Gang and had to buy some ‘Try Me’ Kits.
Well ‘Try Me’ we did! The kits included Magicals, Starbursts Sprays and Moon Shadow Mists.
Magicals are described as ‘micas on steriods’. They contain a powdered pigment stain and mica with a fixative that activates with water – giving a wonderful shimmery result.
Starbursts Sprays are also dye based products with mica powder. You mix them with water in a spray bottle to give deep, rich, vibrant colors with a two-toned shimmer.
Moon Shadow Mists are similar but they have a brown undertone to give a vintage effect.
We used mini canvas panels that Steph had coated with Gesso. We also applied modelling paste using stencils to give a raised effect on the canvas and of course we tried out our new toys along with some metallic rubs. Between us we had Turquoise, Green and Blue kits. It was very messy but lots of fun. My canvases are shown below. Steph is taking more time adding more layers but if you look carefully you can see the beginnings of hers in the photo.
