Home-made Kahlua Recipe

August 14, 2015 By sue 1 Comment

P1070425Making your own home-made Kahlua coffee liqueur is incredibly easy and delicious.  I decided to make it with decaffeinated coffee so that it can still be enjoyed for those who would usually have trouble sleeping after drinking coffee in the evening.

1 litre water (4 cups)

1 1/2 cups instant coffee crystals

1 litre vodka (4 cups)

1.5kg sugar (7-8 cups)

2-3 vanilla beans

Mix water, sugar and coffee crystals.  Heat and stir until dissolved. Cool to room temperature and add vodka.  Stir to combine.

Pour into 6 x 500ml bottles (or whatever combination you have – I often reuse the vodka bottles and then decant to a smaller bottle when I am making a gift).  Cut vanilla beans into six pieces and put one in each bottle.  Leave for 2-3 weeks and then, if you want, strain and remove vanilla beans and rebottle.

Make tags or labels to decorate your bottles if using as a gift.

Good to know your lovely gift was decaf as I may have had it all to myself, now R can enjoy it too.
