Fun Cards for Older Kids

December 3, 2015 By sue 1 Comment

In earlier posts I have written about how I have five nephews and how most of my kids’ cards are based around boy themes.

When the boys were younger, I had a stamp of a stick figure boy in shorts and a t-shirt and challenged myself to represent as many different boys’ pastimes as I could on cards using the stick figure boy.

As they got a bit older I found a great stamp that featured 3 boys with balls.  I cut the stamp up so that I could use the boys in different combinations, particularly with 2 boys of different age combinations. But it wasn’t so versatile in terms of different activities.

Recently I realised that I had run short of boys’ cards and there was a spate of birthdays coming up.

Skating ByI found a stamp set from Stampin’ Up called “Skating By” that had an older boy figure that could be paired with various different objects from skateboards to iPods.  I searched through my stamps and found a range of images representing other sports and activities that were about the right size.  So I set about a reprise of my earlier challenge to make as many different cards as I could utilising the basic stamp set.

I cut lots of pieces of plain white card and stamped a whole range of different combinations of stamps in black ink.  Then I had the challenge of colouring them in, trying to not make any of them the same.  Once I had coloured them, I also tried to mount them on cards in different ways.  I still wanted fun and funky colours but I didn’t want them to look too childish.

These cards are such fun and easy to do: stamp a whole lot at once and then colour them in whenever you get the time or inspiration – hopefully you can use the same basic idea to make cards with or for the kids in your life.  Older kids can colour in the images and stick them on cards themselves to make their own creations.
