May 2017
Take a memorable road trip through Victoria and South Australia, starting from Melbourne and taking in each twist and turn of the Great Ocean Road. Channel your inner surfer at some famed boarding locations, drink in the sweeping vistas of the Twelve Apostles and Loch Ard Gorge, and get an insight into local Aboriginal history in the lush surrounds of the Grampians National Park. Continue through the Adelaide Hills and cross to Kangaroo Island. Much of this stunning landscape is protected and is home to an abundance of native wildlife like sea lions, koalas and, of course, the odd roo or two. Meet the residents at Seal Bay, slide a sand board down the dunes of Little Sahara, keep your eyes peeled for the fuzzy guys that live up the eucalyptus trees of Hanson Bay wildlife Sanctuary, and marvel at the huge boulders of the Remarkable Rocks.
Intrepid Trip Notes
I chose this tour because I was going to a conference in Melbourne and wanted to catch up with friends in Adelaide – and I really wanted to travel on The Great Ocean Road. It is a five day tour: over the next few posts I will share photos and stories of our adventures.
- The Twelve Apostles
- “London Bridge”
- Koala
- The Pinnacle, Grampian Mountains
- Kangaroo
- Emu
- MacKenzie Falls
- Our group
- Remarkable Rocks, Kangaroo Island
This trip is available as a Basix trip staying in Backpacker accommodation or as an Original Trip staying in twin-share accommodation. A single supplement is available. In winter, several trips may be combined. My trip included both Basix and Original passengers, passengers returning to Melbourne, and those going on to Adelaide as a final destination and travelling on to other destinations. Somehow it seemed to work. The Kangaroo Island segment is a separate segment with a different guide and potentially different fellow passengers.
Day 1: The Great Ocean Road
Day 2: The Grampians
Day 3: The Grampians to Adelaide
Day 4: Adelaide to Kangaroo Island
