I’ve previously shared some of my cards using Tim Holtz’s Crazy Cats, Crazy Dogs stamps and several Crazy Birds (1, 2). These were great fun to make and really inspired my creativity to make different scenes for a whole range of different occasions.
Several of the people in my team at work and friends are also mad-keen on animals (especially dogs) and one regularly did pet sitting so was always sharing stories of the various animals under her care. Of course this meant that cards for birthdays and other occasions needed to include a good selection of animals – I often make packs of cards to give as gifts as well. Here are some of the cards I created for them.
I found some stamps that included the heads of animals that were peeking around corners or popping up, with some cute sentiments. These paired perfectly with some colourful frames that I had got as a free gift and hadn’t known how to use. I combined them with some ‘designer series’ papers that I had and rarely used. Pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone to use supplies and elements that you don’t usually include is a great way to spark some creativity. I found myself laughing out loud at some of these.
I revisited the Crazy Cats and Crazy Dogs and challenged myself to pair the cats and dogs together on cards, and to use different Copic Marker colour combinations so that they were all different. I find myself always going for the same colours when I’m colouring a cat or a dog so it was very useful for me to explore a range of different combinations.
Keeping with the Crazy Cats, Dogs and Birds and the Clean & Simple approach I decided to make a series of cards that had the main ‘character’ along with a sentiment and an extra celebratory element.
Then I decided to go a bit crazy myself and add lots of colour and different elements, including using some backgrounds I’d made and didn’t know h0w to use. I hope you enjoy them and that they inspire you in your card making.
