I have been gradually trying different moisturiser recipes to find one that is relatively easy to make and that feels really nice to use. I was using up some ingredients and found some Calendula Oil that I had infused for making Natural Calendula Antiseptic Cream. Calendula flowers have been used by many ancient cultures for their healing powers and natural abilities to soothe dry and irritated skin, so it is a great addition to a moisturiser.
This is a variation on a previous recipe for Chocolate Body Butter and I am pretty happy with the result although I’d like to get one that can be dispensed using a pump bottle. It is easy to make although a bit of effort is required to get the temperatures coinciding at the right time.
Water Phase
100g water
Oil Phase
36g almond oil (can use oil that has been infused with e.g. calendula petals)
18g organic natural cocoa butter
10g emulsifier O
5g organic beeswax
Last Phase
1g Geogard 221
Heat Water Phase to 65°C.
Heat Oil Phase separately until melted. Cool to 65°C.
Pour Oil Phase into Water Phase and blend with a stick blender until thick and creamy. It won’t thicken until it cools to around 40°.
Add Last Phase and blend again.
Spoon into pots.
