These are fun and easy Christmas Ornaments to make, made using salt dough. You can leave them plain, add some essential oils to give a festive scent, or paint them with acrylic paints – the choice is yours. I used Kiki Reva Kani Cookie Cutters* to give a NZ festive look.
1 cup plain flour
1 cup salt
1/2 cup water
Combine the ingredients in a bowl and knead until well mixed. The dough should not be sticky but you can roll it out on a lightly floured surface just in case.
Roll out to about 5mm and cut with your favourite cookie cutters*.
Place the shapes onto an ungreased oven tray and use a straw to poke holes to hang the ornaments.
Bake at 120C for 2-3 hours (or just let dry for a couple of days). I turned them over after a couple of hours to make sure the underside dried out too.
When cool, thread pieces of ribbon through the holes and decorate as/if you see fit.

You can add a few drops of your favourite essential oil blend to each shape when you hang them. Make up your oil blend into a small bottle and have it ready to apply. Here are a couple that you might like:
