Colouring In Cards

September 28, 2015 By sue Leave a Comment

Adult colouring in books are all the rage at the moment.  If, like me, you enjoy the simple pleasure of colouring in and are creating some 'masterpieces' why don't you turn these into cards as well. I have always enjoyed colouring in and remember fondly back to my younger days when my grandmother used to send me from England a series of colouring books based on Medieval Costumes.  I spent hours looking things up in books and deciding what colours to use.  Even now I try (probably too … [Read more...]

It Pays To Make Your Christmas Cards Early

August 20, 2015 By sue Leave a Comment

If you are making Christmas cards then I always find that it pays to make them earlier in the year before the silly season starts.  If you wait until nearer Christmas then it can become incredibly stressful rather than being fun because there always seems to be much more happening later in the year.  In the southern hemisphere it is coming into summer and it is often much more inviting to be outside in the evenings and weekends enjoying the longer days rather than inside making cards.  So I aim … [Read more...]

Alcohol Inks on Acetate Challenge

May 21, 2015 By sue 2 Comments

My friend Steph and I have regular ‘play dates’ where we get together to try out different products and techniques that we can use in making cards.  At the end of the session we split the backgrounds between us (we often make 2 of each) and challenge each other to use them to make finished cards.  It never ceases to amaze me how different two cards can be even when they start with the same material.  Steph has kindly let me show some of her cards in my blog.  So I will show you some of the … [Read more...]

Cards using Photos from a Special Outing

January 21, 2015 By sue Leave a Comment

If you have been on an outing somewhere for a special occasion and have taken some nice photos, turning those photos into cards as a gift for people that have shared that outing with you can be a fun thing to do. I had a trip to Hobbiton recently with my brother and nephews to celebrate Thomas' birthday and it was an extremely photogenic location (see my earlier post). I printed out several of the best photos and turned them into a set of cards that I included in my home-made Christmas … [Read more...]

Turn your old Calendars into Cards

January 3, 2015 By sue Leave a Comment

Chances are that you like the images on your calendars - the pictures are usually selected because they are good ones and are appealing.  And if you have chosen the calendar then it generally means that you like the pictures.  So don't waste them.  Recycle them into cards so that you and others can continue to enjoy them. Generally the pictures are much bigger than the cards so you will need to identify scenes within them that you can pick out.  Sometimes you can get multiple cards out of the … [Read more...]

Paper Mosaic Techniques

October 3, 2014 By sue Leave a Comment

The Paper Mosaic Technique is so simple and yet so elegant.  And even better, you can use up any card scraps to make them.  You may recognise in some of the cards below that Steph and I cut up tissue boxes to create many of these.  We got the technique from MaryJo McGraw's book on card making. You will need colourful scraps of card, paper cord if you have it (not essential but it does add a lift to the finished result) and some double-sided tape.  MaryJo talks about double-sided masking tape … [Read more...]
