Berry Ripple Icecream Recipe

April 5, 2022 By sue Leave a Comment

Scoop into container and freeze

This Berry Ripple Icecream recipe uses a berry jam of your choice to ripple through a homemade vanilla icecream. You will need an icecream maker. I bought an icecream maker a while back and whilst I had made mango gelato, strawberry gelato and rose & raspberry sorbet, I hadn't actually made proper icecream so when I saw this recipe I thought it was a perfect time to give it a go. If you can't be bothered making your own icecream, partially melt some store-bought icecream and stir some jam … [Read more...]

Luscious Home-made Mango Gelato

March 8, 2015 By sue Leave a Comment

Mangoes have to be one of my favourite tropical fruit.  When I travel I try to eat as many of them as possible.  I saw them on a super-special at the local fruit store and knew that I had to get more than just a few.  So as well as mango lassi (mango, yoghurt and milk or water blended with some cardamom) and fruit smoothies and smoked chicken and mango salad ...., I had to try making some luscious mango gelato in my icecream maker. 1 cup sugar 4 egg yolks 1 3/4 cups milk 1/2 cup … [Read more...]

Home-made Strawberry Gelato

February 24, 2015 By sue Leave a Comment

When you are fortunate enough to have fresh (or frozen) strawberries from the garden, making a strawberry gelato helps extend the summer and makes you think of travelling to Italy... 2 cups milk 1 cup cream 4 egg yolks 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and pureed (frozen and defrosted works) 1/4 tsp sea salt 1/2 tsp lemon zest Combine milk and cream in a saucepan and bring to the boil.  Simmer, stirring constantly, for about 4-5 … [Read more...]

Lemon Gelato and Blueberry Buttermilk Sherbet

December 10, 2014 By sue 1 Comment

After my previous success with Rose & Raspberry Sorbet, I wanted to try my hand at gelato and sherbet to see what the difference was between them all. I had some buttermilk (whey) left over from my cheese-making, so chose Blueberry Buttermilk Sherbet - another Martha Stewart recipe; and Lemon Gelato from the Ice cream Maker Recipe book.  The sherbet is slightly creamier than the sorbet and the gelato is creamier again.  There are two types of gelato: the sugar syrup gelato that I made has … [Read more...]

Homemade Rose & Raspberry Sorbet

November 24, 2014 By sue 1 Comment

I had been thinking for a while that making fruit sorbets would be a great use of fruit from my garden so when I found a Sunbeam Ice Cream Maker on super special it seemed like a sensible move to buy it and try it out.  The recipe book is full of different recipes to try out: basic vanilla icecream and lots of variations, gelatos and sorbets.  I also found 25 deliciously different recipes to try on Martha Stewart's website. A traditional creamy Ice Cream is made from a custard base using … [Read more...]
