Be WOWed by the World of Wearable Art

February 6, 2015 By sue Leave a Comment

The World of Wearable Art (better known as WOW) has grown spectacularly over the last 25 years to become a unique international design competition at the intersection of fashion and art, attracting designers and artists of all persuasions from around the world.  It started life over 25 years ago in Nelson, New Zealand as a way to raise money for the local art gallery. Now the event is held in Wellington in September/October each year and draws audiences of around 50,000 people.  Bookings … [Read more...]

Cards using Photos from a Special Outing

January 21, 2015 By sue Leave a Comment

If you have been on an outing somewhere for a special occasion and have taken some nice photos, turning those photos into cards as a gift for people that have shared that outing with you can be a fun thing to do. I had a trip to Hobbiton recently with my brother and nephews to celebrate Thomas' birthday and it was an extremely photogenic location (see my earlier post). I printed out several of the best photos and turned them into a set of cards that I included in my home-made Christmas … [Read more...]

Visiting Hobbiton, Middle Earth

January 11, 2015 By sue Leave a Comment

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Hobbiton, the scene of the movie set for the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings series.  It is based about 2.5 hours south of Auckland, just out of Matamata.  I went with my brother and nephews (and a friend) for Thomas' birthday treat - he and his friend Rico are mad keen on anything Hobbit-related. I didn't know quite what to expect as I don't particularly like crowds and touristy things but was very pleasantly surprised (it does pay to get there as early … [Read more...]

Turn your old Calendars into Cards

January 3, 2015 By sue Leave a Comment

Chances are that you like the images on your calendars - the pictures are usually selected because they are good ones and are appealing.  And if you have chosen the calendar then it generally means that you like the pictures.  So don't waste them.  Recycle them into cards so that you and others can continue to enjoy them. Generally the pictures are much bigger than the cards so you will need to identify scenes within them that you can pick out.  Sometimes you can get multiple cards out of the … [Read more...]
