Day 19 Hoi An

July 26, 2014 By sue Leave a Comment

16 January 2013

Today we have to be in town early for a cooking class. This starts with a tour of the local markets being introduced to all the wonderful herbs and fresh produce that we will be using later on. The class is run by the same people who opened the first restaurant and now have 5 restaurants including the newly opened Marketplace restaurant that includes demonstration areas and cooking class areas upstairs. We make 5 delicious dishes that we eat for lunch. We were given recipes along with a great cooking knife and we bought some slicing and chopping tools in the market as well. They are also selling autographed copies of their cookbook but I decided to purchase it once I got home rather than fill my suitcase further.

The class was run on Vietnam time which unfortunately meant that I missed meeting up with Brian and Eke for a river boat trip but Ingrid and Sarah decided that a sunset boat ride would be nice. And it was. We cruised by all the fishing boats and all the little craft with people going home from work or from the market and little boats with people casting their nets. Sunset was beautiful and we had some lovely shots of different boats silhouetted against the setting sun.

Back at the dock we decided that cocktails were in order to celebrate our last night in this lovely place and found a cafe with seats on the street overlooking the river where we could continue to watch the world pass by (and we decided to experience a bucket of cocktail with 3 straws). Then it is time to see whether all the new purchases can be crammed into the suitcase and ready ourselves for a very early start for a flight to Ho Chi Minh City.
