It is a sad morning as I farewell Eke and Brian (I have spent 2 months travelling with them this year so they feel like family to me).
I am ready to leave India and head home but as I sit in the taxi on the way to the airport with horns blaring all round, I see people picking up rubbish and putting it in bins; there are posters for a conference “Technology for a Quieter India”, signs urging people to conserve fuel and places for pollution checks. We have noticed the pace of change even in the month we have spent here: a building that was in the early stages of construction opposite the Swati Hotel when we arrived is now open for business as a western style restaurant/café.
In spite of pollution and chaos, in the words of our cooking class instructor it is indeed an ‘Incredible India – nobody understands how it works, but it does’. I wonder what the future holds for this fascinating country.
