There has always been room under my house to store all of the necessities of gardening but it is cold, you can’t stand up in there and it is away from where most of the gardening is required. I found that I was constantly putting off doing things because it was too much hassle to go down and get the tools that I needed. I began to scheme and figured out where I could put a garden shed right where I needed it. I was wary to start with because my ex was a hoarder extraordinaire and has many sheds (all full of stuff) – I had to be certain that I wasn’t heading down that slippery slope!
Having decided that this was the right thing to do, I researched all the sheds that were available. It would have to be a kitset in order to get it to the right place, the right dimensions and of course a reasonable price. I eventually found the perfect combination on sale and got it delivered. Some lovely friends with building skills and tools came round to help me assemble it in exchange for a day of food and beverages.
I was so proud of my shed and spent ages working out the best way to utilize the space. A storage rack that had been used for sports gear fitted perfectly across the end of the shed to hang my tools from. I waited for New Years’ sales to get shelving units and found a cheap potting bench at the Warehouse. I had hours of fun organizing my things and working out where to put them: a place for everything and everything in its place. A bit nerdy I know, but what joy after having to poke around hunched over in the semi-darkness under the house! The shed is right there beside the garden and so easy to just get what you need. I really don’t think that I would have taken on gardening so much if it wasn’t for my shed.
