In an earlier post I talked about how I often used to go to jewellery classes nearby but now The Bead Hold has moved to rural Taranaki and is now available on-line only. Now that I can’t go to the classes, I have purchased several kitsets/ instruction sheets covering a range of different techniques to try and am working my way through them to see what I like best.
The Triple Helix design took my fancy because with my science background I immediately thought of making a DNA helix. You can make it with longer bugle beads as I did or use Miyuki Squares instead to get a totally different look.
This is a stitched design and is very easy to do – for me the hardest part was trying to thread the tiny needle. I had a day when I was at home sick and my brain couldn’t cope with reading but I could happily sit there just threading on beads. You don’t need any special tools for this either. The needles and thread come as part of the kit so you just need scissors and some clear nail polish to finish the ends of the thread.
I bought 3 different bracelet kitsets in different colour combinations because I thought they would make great gifts.
After I had made these, I thought that the design would also make a great necklace, so I contacted Nia at the Bead Hold to get more beads that were the same as those she’d used in the kitset so that I could make one to match.
