Geranium Body Moisturiser
This geranium body moisturiser was surprisingly easy to make. While I’ve been making different moisturising products for a while, I have mostly been making the more basic body butters that don’t have as many ingredients or complicated steps.
For this I used a basic recipe for a more solid moisturiser but I really wanted something that would dispense through a pump rather than having to scoop out of a jar so I experimented with adding more liquid. I also took the opportunity to try out substituting my own geranium hydrosol in place of the water phase. I used geranium essential oil as well to get a double whammy of geranium. Geranium acts as a stabilising tonic for the skin (as well as smelling great).
Water Phase
200g geranium hydrosol (or water)
Oil Phase
20g Emulsifier O
20g Shea butter
Last Phase
2g Geogard 221
1g geranium essential oil
Melt Oil Phase ingredients in a Pyrex jug over hot water. Take off heat as soon as the ingredients are melted.
Weigh 200g of geranium hydrosol into a small saucepan. Heat until very small bubbles form in the bottom of the pan. Take off heat.
Pour the Oil Phase ingredients into the hydrosol and whisk with a stick blender until the mixture thickens. Scrap down the sides of the pan with a spatula as required.
Once the mixture has cooled to be warm to the touch, add the Last Phase ingredients and blend until completely mixed.
Pour into a pump bottle.
- Melt oils
- Heat hydrosol until little bubbles form
- Pour oils into hydrosol
- Whisk until thickened
- Add last phase and whisk
- Pour into bottle
