Arnica Balm Recipe

Arnica balm

Arnica balm

This Arnica Balm recipe is even simpler than the recipe I recently shared for Calendula Body Butter that used oil infused with calendula petals. This recipe uses oil infused with arnica and an equal amount of cocoa butter – that’s it!

Arnica is commonly used to provide pain relief for muscle aches, sprains and bruises, reducing pain and inflammation and supports the healing process. I use it particularly on bruises (which I always seem to get after a day in the garden even if I can’t remember bumping anything in particular). It is also used for pain caused by osteoarthritis.

The basic balm recipe is:

50g sunflower or other carrier oil infused with your botanical of choice (calendula, arnica, chamomile etc)
50g deodorised cocoa butter (although you can use plain cocoa butter if you like the cocoa scent)

Melt the cocoa butter in a double boiler or hook a Pyrex jug over the edge of a saucepan of water so that it doesn’t sit on the bottom of the pan.

When melted stir through the infused oil and pour into containers. I like to make a mix of sizes so that I can have one for the bathroom cupboard, one for my travel first aid kit and some to share.
